Fruity Dessert Recipes

Sweet Cherry TartThe combination of fresh fruit and sweet pastry is hard to pass.  Fruity desserts are a great way to get the vitamins you need, while satisfying your sweet tooth.   Browse through the fruit recipe guide to find unique combinations and exotic flavors to add just the right finish to holiday and party get-togethers.

Sorbet.  Richly fruity and cool for the summer months, sorbet is packed with flavor and freshness.  Fruit puree, sweet water and chocolate give this frozen treat a flavor that is loved by both young and old.  Traditional sorbet uses wine or other sweet alcoholic drinks in the recipe, however almost any recipe can be converted into a kid-friendly version simply by leaving out the alcohol.  Sorbet is lower in fat than ice cream and can be made from fresh fruit, making it a healthy alternative to conventional dessert.

Lattice Crust Pies.  Show off the fruity filling with delicious warm-from-the-heart lattice crust pies.  Pies are an American family tradition, and they can be filled with much more than apples.  Peaches bananas, pineapple, strawberry, cherry and blueberry make wonderful pie fillings.  Create sweet memories with your loved ones over a homemade pie during the holidays or other family get-togethers.  For a Fourth of July celebration, alternate cherries and blueberries (separated by a thin layer of crust) for an American flag design.   Use icing for the stars.

Fruit tarts.  When one thinks of fruit and dessert, a fruit tart may be the first thing that comes to mind.  Small, plate-shaped pastry crusts are filled with glazed fruits dunked in a sweet creamy filling.  Fruit tarts can be quite decorative, and make colorful presentations when arranged on a large platter or served to each guest individually.  Use berries and fruits to match special events and holiday seasons.

As toppings, fresh or canned fruits can be used to decorate cakes and cup cakes.  Cheesecakes are commonly served topped with an arrangement of fresh fruits, often complementing the fruit flavor of the cheesecake itself.   Cup cakes can be topped with whipped cream or icing, and decorated with fresh berries and chocolate chips.  There is something extraordinary about the mix of chocolate and fresh fruity flavors.

For a quick treat well suited to social situations, serve fresh strawberries with a sweet and creamy dip.  Sweetened yogurt makes a great dessert dip and plays off nicely with the sweet and sour berry flavor.   If you are looking for a Fourth of July centerpiece, arrange blue berries(at least 3 at a time), strawberries and marshmallows on a large platter.  All you need now is fireworks.
