Sensational Birthday Party Recipes

Cooking up a themed birthday party for your son or daughter?  From young to old, parties with a special theme are the latest rage.  Nothing adds to a birthday party quite like thoughtful planning and organization.

 
Themed birthday parties are a great way to make the special occasion an extra memorable event, and the possibilities are as wide as your imagination.    Below are our favorite party themes for boys and girls that make for an unforgettable get-together.

Princess Party

Bake a princess cake.  Whip up a sweet and simple bread batter and put aside until the guests come.  Have the girls roll up the dough into long cylinders and shape into the princess object of their choice.  Princess braids are an easy favorite.  Decorate with colorful sprinkles and chocolate chips.  Place in the oven and let the girl's creations bake while the party goes into full swing.  The cakes make great take-home treats!

Think pink!  From room decorations to the drinks, use pink as the base color for a touch of girly royalty.  Kool-Aid and pink lemonade add a great deal to the party theme. Pink milk shakes are another kid-favorite. You can add strawberries, or a bit of food coloring for those who do not like the berry taste. 

I heart sandwiches.  Use heart and star-shaped cookie cutters to give your sandwiches a princess twist.  If you are baking cookies, use cookie cutters to create shapes that go along with the party theme. 

Edible jewelry.  Purchase plenty of string and use Froot Loops cereal to make edible garlands.  Each girl can make her own, or make it a group project to make jewelry for the princess of the evening.  You can get even more creative and use bead-making ideas to make extravagant crowns, bracelets and more.

Fear Factor Party

Fear factor party themes are becoming more popular than ever.  They do require a bit of planning ahead, but the results are unforgettable. Whether you are planning a birthday party or a Halloween ball, be sure to take plenty of photographs with these blood-chilling recipes.

Dare to walk on glass!  This stunt takes little preparation and can be put together from store-bought ingredients.  Spread potato chips or cereal flakes on the ground and sprinkle with fake blood.  Water, red food coloring and chocolate syrup make for an edible blood recipe.  Add a bit of flour as a thickener for a more realistic look.  Have the kids walk on the chips blindfolded.  The blood on the feet will add suspense for the others waiting their turn!

Spaghetti can have great potential for "gross" concoctions.  Cook up a few bowls of spaghetti and mix with green food coloring.  Throw in a package of gummy bears and divide into a few bowls.  See who can dig out the most gummy bears in a given time.

Dirty cup cakes.  Bake a few batches of golden cup cakes.  Once prepared, roll them in chocolate flakes, powdered sugar and bread crumbs.  Be sure to tell the kids all the dirty things they can find on the cup cakes.

Sour face race.  This trick takes almost no time to prepare. Cut up lemon slices and see who can hold a slice in their mouth the longest!

Themed Cake.  No birthday party is a party without a cake!  Use strong and contradicting colors to fit the theme of the party.  A great way to involve the kids in the candle blowing is to give each child a cup cake that matches the big cake, each with their own candle.  Make sure there is careful supervision over the candles.  Once the cup cakes are distributed, have a group candle blow-out!
