Baking Recipes by Rose Levy Beranbaum

Rose Levy Beranbaum is the award-winning author of 9 cookbooks, including The Cake Bible.  Rose hosts an online community of bakers on her blog, Real Baking with Rose.  We interviewed Rose about the blog and what she loves to bake most.

Could you tell us a little about yourself?

I am the author of 9 cookbooks. The Cake Bible, now in it’s 47th printing, won the International Association of Culinary Professional’s Book of the Year Award in 1989 and my newest book, Rose’s Heavenly Cakes, won the same award this year. When I’m not baking or cooking, I’m answering questions on my blog.

What was the inspiration behind creating realbakingwithrose.com?

It was offered to me by Gold Medal Flour and I didn’t even know what the word blog meant. I sure do now! My blog has formed a worldwide community of bakers and I love having it.

What can readers find on the blog?

The blog has become a great resource for people asking questions and/or offering ideas. In addition to postings with recipes, stories, photos, equipment, ingredient, and restaurant reviews, there is also a link to You Tube with over 100 segments featuring baking techniques. The forums also provide a running dialogue between fellow bakers.

What are your favorite foods to bake?

My top favorite is bread. I haven’t bought a loaf of bread in over 8 years—not even a hamburger or hot dog bun! Of course I also love making pies, tarts, cakes, and cookies. I cook dinner almost every night and enjoy savory food at least as much as sweet.
