TraditionalEnglishPuddings.co.uk features traditional English pudding recipes. Chris Lofts, creator and owner, discusses his inspiration for creating the site and the content it offers. Bring the taste of English cuisine to your table tonight!
Traditional English Puddings was born from a love of traditional English cooking. From research it was evident that there were recipes available from a wide range of sources, but no specialist web sites that dealt with English Puddings in any depth. We wanted to put that right. Many recipes are available from a wide range of very well known chefs, who all add their own twists. Our goal is to keep things simple and to use fresh seasonal produce, great flavor, and to use local producers where we can. Regardless of skill level, there is something on the site for everyone, from beginner to advanced.
As children, we spent many happy hours with our parents and grandparents watching, helping and tasting as they created the delicious post dinner treats. Many of the recipes found on the site come from our own family recipe books gathered over many years of collective experience.
Many traditional recipes are about being thrifty and making use of what’s available, which can mean leftovers that today are often discarded as rubbish. Take for example two classics, bread and butter pudding and bread pudding. Both make use of left over bread to create something that is delicious and warming. Many traditional English recipes were born out of less plentiful times such as during the rationing that was part of life during and after the Second World War.
The site contains a wide repertoire of recipes. Some are quick, some are very long and slow, but all mean flavor and indulgence. It is a fact that most modern lifestyles simply don’t allow the time necessary to prepare and cook some of the more complex recipes every day. This probably accounts for why traffic to the web site is much higher on Sundays than any other day of the week. Further variation is seen at different times of the year. The summer months see less traffic, when people seem content with delicious seasonal fruits and berries all of which should be enjoyed, with the minimum of additions, just as they are.
In addition to the recipes, the site contains some other features including celebrity favorites. We are very proud to have our biggest cooking inspiration on board, Mr. Rick Stein, including one or two others. There is a link to the blog where we like to get a debate going about all that’s good about English Puddings. We also encourage and welcome new suggestions for recipes that we haven’t listed yet.
