Fast Recipes Feature: BreadExperience.com

Cathy WarnerCathy Warner has turned her love for baking bread into a one-stop resource for home bread bakers.  BreadExperience.com celebrates the intricate process of bread making through recipes that range from plain white, to whole grain, to artisan loaves.  Cathy speaks to FastRecipes.com about the creation of the site and its contents.

1.  Could you tell us a little about yourself?

During the day, I’m a project manager for an international company.  I manage the content and user experience for one of their intranet portals. In my off time, I enjoy spending time with my sons, baking bread, dancing, hiking, music, and healthy eating. My job gets stressful at times so baking bread helps me unwind and be creative. Not to mention homemade bread tastes so much better than store bought bread.

2.  What was the inspiration behind creating breadexperience.com?

The Bread Experience was created out of a passion for baking bread and the desire to provide resources for other home bakers who love to bake bread or want to learn how to bake bread, but don't have time to search for all the tools and resources they need.

The idea for the site was birthed while I was working on my Masters in Electronic Commerce a couple of years ago.  I had to write a business plan and a strategic plan for a fictitious company and I decided it would be more fun to write about something that I really enjoy.  In my research, I ran across a wealth of information and a lot of great bread-baking sites so my idea was to bring this information together. My instructors liked my idea and encouraged me to implement it. And so, The Bread Experience was born.  The site officially launched in May of 2008. The Bread Experience is a labor of love that is still in its infancy, but keeps on evolving.

3.  What can readers find on BreadExperience.com?

The Bread Experience is about more than just baking wonderful bread. It's about the whole process: beginning with the wheat growing in the field, to the mill where the wheat is ground into flour, and then to the home baker who uses the flour to make loaves of wonderful bread. The final and most important part of the journey is sharing that loaf of bread with family and friends. Then, the process begins again to create the bread experience.

On the Bread Experience site, you’ll find bread recipes, baking supplies and equipment and other tools and resources such as home milling resources to assist home bread-bakers in baking bread. On the bread-making blog, you'll find step-by-step bread-baking and canning instruction as well as information regarding bread-baking and canning events.

I look forward to providing you with the resources and tools you need to make great bread and providing some unique content you won't find on other bread-related sites.

So come enjoy your bread … the experience is on us!  Visit BreadExperience.com!

4.  If you could summarize bread making into one quote, what would it be?

“Nothing quite compares to the experience and pleasure of baking bread, from the thrill of kneading and working the dough to the heavenly aroma that fills the air.”
