What was the inspiration behind creating the Creative Cooking School? Georgia Southern University had received numerous requests from the community for it to consider offering creative cooking classes through its Continuing Education program. As the University has continued to grow, so too has the community and the Statesboro area has attracted faculty, staff, and students from all over the world. Having such a diverse community, there was enough interest and the timing was right to offer the classes. What kind of classes do you offer? Georgia Southern offers a variety of classes, but it is currently featuring a Sauce Workshop and a very popular Budget Gourmet class. Are the classes open to the general public? Yes, but we attract a variety of people from the University as well. Could you tell us about the instructor? Chef Brian Hancock is a Certified Chef D’ Cuisine by the American Chef Federation (ACF). Mr. Hancock has worked for Georgia Southern University’s Eagle Dining Services for the past four years. He started as a chef in the University’s popular Talons Grille and recently moved to serve as head chef of the Catering kitchen. What responses have you received from your students? Most of the responses we receive are appreciative of the creative approach to the workshops. We work continuously to feature a variety of classes to accommodate those who have expressed interest in new and inexpensive ways to entertain, whether it be at home or with friends. |
