1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Checkerboard frosting:
1 Tbs. Warm milk
2 Tbs. Melted butter
2 1/4 c. Confectioners sugar
1 Egg yolk
1/2 Tsp. Vanilla
1 Melted chocolate
1 Tbs. Milk Sift together: 1 2/3 c. Pillsbury flour
2 Tsp. Baking powder
1/2 Tsp. Salt
1 c. Sugar
Add: 1/2 c. Soft butter

Directions
Beat for 2 minutes then add 3 Egg whites unbeaten1/2 Tsp. Lemon extract
And beat for 2 minutes then Blend in 1/2 cup chopped walnuts Checkerboard frosting: Combine 1 Tbs. Warm milk
2 Tbs. Melted butter
2 1/4 c. Confectioners sugar
1 Egg yolk
1/2 Tsp. Vanilla
Beat until smooth and creamy -. Add: 1 Melted chocolate and
1 Tbs. Milk
To 1/3 of the frosting. The rest leave plain. Follow the directions for mixing cake. Pour into a well greased and lightly floured 8 x 8 x 2 pan. Bake 350 40-50 minutes. Cool follow the directions for putting together. Best of class senior contest--1950 Pillsbury Cook off. This is a simple cake that looks fancy. All you do is cut the nut loaf cake into four squares. You frost with white frosting (2) and the other 2 with chocolate--Then arrange them checkerboard fashion and sprinkle nuts over the top. It is a quick mix variation.
